PUSH Buffalo has been LYING for years about its Climate Solutions. Every lie uses the hope for a better future and the image of poor black and brown community members to raise money for FALSE SOLUTIONS.
How many homes has PUSH Weatherized in 14213? How many people who got weatherization still live in the neighborhood?
How many Solar Arrays has PUSH Buffalo put up and how much money have they generated?
How many Green Jobs are giving people in Buffalo family sustaining wages?
How many people have been evicted or PUSHED out of PUSH Buffalos “Affordable Housing”?
PUSH Buffalo has driven almost $100 Million on the Westside to STOP Gentrification!
Did it work?
PUSH Buffalo takes the phrase “act on climate” literally – they have been acting this whole time! They have not figured out community-based climate solutions and have been lying to funders, tenants (remember that PUSH is a landlord!), community members, the public, and their own workers about what they have done in the past, are currently working on now, and are capable of accomplishing in the future. This twisted form of gaslighting from PUSH Buffalo’s executive leadership harms the community, workers, and the climate justice movement at large.
None of PUSH’s climate solutions work the way they say they do, if they work at all. PUSH Buffalo claims to have solutions to net-zero housing, community solar, sustainable land planning, home weatherization, and how to get POC into the green workforce, but as we will talk about here and in other posts, they don’t. PUSH Buffalo is lying about its climate solution accomplishments to get more grant dollars, celebrity appearances, and power. This is a problem for everyone from West Side residents to policymakers in Albany and Washington DC because it is providing inaccurate information and false hope to the people and organizations who are genuinely trying to dismantle oppressive systems and find sustainable, resilient ways to live on this Earth.
It didn’t and doesn’t have to be this way. The truth is, we need demonstration projects and organizations taking risks on climate change solutions, but then we must learn from the lessons of what went wrong to improve and make something better the next time. Unfortunately, that’s not what is happening here because PUSH Buffalo expects us all to accept (and pay for!) their mess of gaslighting and lies.
We want climate justice, and that requires dismantling the racist, classist, industrial systems that are killing us and the Earth while building sustainable systems around housing, transportation, water, policing, food, and more. We don’t have time for liars telling us they know how to fix everything, when in reality they don’t. PUSH Buffalo has not been honest about their work or struggles in exchange for grant dollars and power, which means that the climate justice movement, especially in New York State, is marching towards community-based solutions that don’t fully exist.
PUSH Buffalo makes white folks feel better about their climate anxiety but doesn’t actually address the deep issues of Climate Change and Gentrification.
