PULL Buffalo

BN- Quote People Who Are Actually On The Frontlines

Someone sent us this recent article in the Buffalo News which talks about an influx of new immigrants contributing to Buffalo’s population increase according to new US Census data. Those of us who live, have lived, worked, or operated a small business on the city’s West Side have seen this in person happening for at least the past 15 years. We don’t have a problem with this. What we have an issue with is that the piece quoted PUSH’s Policy and Strategy director Clarke Gocker as if he has or the organization for which he works for has ideas or solutions as to greatly curtail displacement or gentrification in their organizing area which is the West Side.

“I’m really interested in looking at future data to see if it supports what we’ve felt and observed – which is that people are being displaced into communities outside the West Side, like Black Rock, Riverside and Broadway Fillmore,” said Clarke Gocker, the director of policy and strategy at the left-leaning neighborhood advocacy group PUSH Buffalo.”

Lol! This guy is PUSH’s longest employed person, for nearly 15 years, and he still needs to look at future data? Unbelievable! But, not surprising. We’ve told you that Gocker is basically the white guy they have that is paid nearly $100,000 a year to front for social justice. He doesn’t know what he is doing. He is currently a member of PUSH’s Executive Management Team. He gets paid to act like he has or is working on a ‘policy’ or ‘strategy’ to carry forth the mission of PUSH which includes working on housing and job issues in poor communities. He is a major part of why PUSH’s campaigns are not very powerful. Hold up, wait! Does PUSH even have any local campaigns? But, he is also a big part of the reason why people have left, been forced out, or have been wrongfully fired from the organization. He is among the least creative, least perceptive of the needs of low-income people, and most hard headed people in the organization, but yet he has been granted and rewarded with a lot of power. He has no idea what he is doing, and if people get displaced from the West Side of Buffalo and are scattered across the city it has no sense of urgency to him. He has owned his home, a beautiful one with a rental property on the West Side for many years so he isn’t affected by displacement or gentrification like most people he gets paid to advocate for. He isn’t affected so therefore has no sense of urgency to really fight and develop policies and strategies to create winning community campaigns. The reality is that PUSH has policies and strategies that allow the the big corporate nonprofit to buy or acquire much of the land, but not regular people. The Buffalo News do everyone a favor and quote people who are actually on the frontlines doing the work who really care and know what they’re talking about. Don’t quote high paid corporate nonprofit hacks who are a part of the problem.
