Beware the Ides of March!

Beware the Ides of March
Beware the Ides of March!! Follow the new movement to expose PUSH Buffalo's toxic work environment, and lies to the movement!

When one hears the term Beware the Ides of March from classical literature, visions of betrayal and corruption come to mind. The term was said by a fortune teller to the leader of the then- mighty Roman Empire, Julius Caesar, ruler of the who ruled the Roman Empire who at the time, stood atop of the known world. The fortune teller warned Caesar warning was said to Julius Caesar the leader of the Roman Empire, as a warning not to not take things for granted as they seem, to not get too caught up in his own ego, and to watch his back on March 15th, the Ides of March. Julius Caesar disregarded that wise warning and, as we know, was assassinated on that day by members of the Roman Senate.

The Ides of March, March 15th, is an infamous date in world history that has a universal message still relevant today: do not get too caught up in your ego or abuse the power that you have accumulated because there are consequences.

Welcome to the #PullBuffalo website. If you’re reading this or visiting for the first time, this is a site dedicated to exposing the toxic work environment inside People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Buffalo) that has existed for many years. The toxic work environment and work culture at PUSH Buffalo is a microcosm of the labor and human rights issues that exist within the non-profit industrial complex throughout the United States and the rest of the world.

Why is this toxic work environment important to know? Because PUSH is actually lying to the movement about false solutions. White people are saying they are providing benefits to People of Color (POC), but then POC are leaving the organization in droves. This toxicity is eroding the very thing that originally made the community engage the organization, things the community cares about the most – their homes and the creation of many living wage, sustainable jobs. PUSH’s community power is fake, and their toxicity work environment is feeding into that.

The Religion of Social Injustice

Today on the Ides of March, we publicly take issue with PUSH Buffalo’s abuse of power against their own employees and the community they claim to serve for the first time. For an organization that says it fights social injustice, it actively practices social injustice against its own employees, members, and neighbors. These social injustice practices have evolved over the years into a full-blown religion of dishonesty and harm. PUSH senior executives are so caught-up in their fantasy world of pretending to help people that they are now worshipping at the altar of social injustice and perpetuating the systemic harms that are found in social justice, community organizing, and affordable housing nonprofits across the country.

Many of these stories are shocking, but true. The public, locally in Buffalo, across New York State, nationally, internationionally, and across the web of PUSH individual and institutional donors will hear much of this untold truth here for the first time. Starting today, March 15th ‘The Ides of March’, we will begin releasing stories of harm at PUSH Buffalo and thoughts on nonprofit workplace issues and (real!) solutions on a nearly-daily basis. Until now, these stories and issues have been hidden by the Religion of Social Injustice Ministry at PUSH Buffalo.

Do you have any stories of witnessing or experiencing harm, exploitation, mistreatment, or toxicity at or by PUSH Buffalo? We want to hear from you!
